How to Treat Dry Skin

Before you can properly treat dry skin, you need to know what's causing it. Here are common reasons people experience dry, itchy skin along with some simple solutions.

Some people have a dry skin ‘type’ and will be more prone to dryness because of that. If you’d like to determine your skin type, click here. Another reason for dry skin is that it can be a condition of environmental factors such as heat, cold or wind. The last couple of ways you can develop dry skin is by using the wrong products for your skin type and there may be a lack of essential healthy fats in your diet. All of these factors can cause your skin to feel tight, look dull and become inflamed. This causes redness and irritation. The great news is when dry skin is treated correctly, it will be healthy without any negative side effects.

If you are born with dry skin (meaning you have little to no visible pores) maintaining a daily moisturizing skincare routine is essential. Dry skin produces little to no sebum, which acts as your skin’s physical protective barrier, allowing skin to become vulnerable. This can lead to chapped, red, sore, tight and uncomfortable skin. By having a moisturizing skincare routine every day you are adding that protective barrier back to your skin, leaving skin looking and feeling healthy.
