With Love...A Survivor's Story

In honor of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Lemongrass Spa is encouraging those bravely fighting any type of cancer to share their stories with us, and in return we will gift them one of our Loving Care Sets. Read one survivor’s inspiring journey to a fresh, clean & natural lifestyle.

HeatherMiller.jpgHello! My name is Heather Miller, Senior Director with Lemongrass Spa Products. I would like to share a little bit about my journey with Lemongrass Spa. In August of 2014, a friend of mine contacted me to share that she had just joined natural skin care company and wanted to send me a catalog and samples to try. I knew that if she loved them, they must be something special. My friend is a breast cancer survivor and meticulous about what goes on and in her body. When the products arrived, I was amazed at the purity of the ingredients used in these products. And the best part was how very well the products worked!

I too am a breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2011. At the time, my husband was deployed with the Marine Corps. I underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and 33 rounds of radiation treatments at the age of 37. My breast cancer was NOT genetic, I did not carry the BRCA gene and there was no history of breast cancer in my family. My cancer was labeled “Environmental”, in fact I was part of a clinical study and parabens were found in my breast tumor. That was a huge wakeup call for me!

My family went on a mission to go clean and green with our diet, cleaning products, and with our skin care. The diet and cleaning products were pretty easy to change over. However, I would spend hours researching skin care products only to end up frustrated and angry at what I found. So many products were labeled “hypo-allergic, organic, and natural” but when I would read the ingredients list, those products still contained harsh and even toxic chemicals.

I even tried making my own lotions and skincare products at home, and failed pretty miserably. I resorted to using with coconut oil, but my body still needed something else, I just could not seem to figure out what it was. So when the Lemongrass Spa products arrived from my friend, Lenora, the timing could not have been any better. The eczema on my back went away in 3 days. My skin was finally soft, vibrant, and HAPPY. I was hooked and I decided to join this amazing company without even attending a Spa Party, I was that impressed! I wanted to share these products with my family!

Lions and Tigers and…. Lead?…Oh My! Using Sheer Minerals Makeup For a Safe and Healthy Halloween

Ghosts and Goblins are not the only frightening things lurking around this Halloween. Many of the commercial face-painting products on the market today contain petroleum, lead, artificial dyes and fragrances, as well as skin allergens such as cobalt, chromium and nickel. Not to mention the scream-worthy ingredients in adhesives and glues, the red dye in fake blood and synthetic chemicals in spray-on hair color. Halloween can be a veritable witches brew of toxic ingredients!!

Fortunately, with Lemongrass Spa, there’s an alternative. You can achieve almost any look you want with our collection of Sheer Minerals makeup! Any of the Sheer Minerals powders can be mixed with water or Healing Elements Balm to glide on effortlessly. Our Black and Brown Natural Eyeliners can be used for outlines, cat eyes, black noses and freckles. The Organic Crème Lipstick in Siren is a perfect blood-red for a Count (or Countess) Dracula. Add a little sparkle to your favorite Fairy Princess with White Diamond Eye Shadow. The possibilities are as big as your imagination!

To demonstrate the versatility and ease of application of Sheer Minerals as Halloween makeup, Lemongrass Spa hosted a Halloween Face-Off contest with our Consultants and their families and friends. We asked them to submit photos and application instructions of their best Halloween makeovers for a chance to win $100 as well as be featured in this blog. Wow! What an amazing response we got! The submissions were incredible! There was such a huge response that we had a hard time choosing the winners! Thank you to all who took the time to showcase their creative, adorable, scary and sometimes hilarious works of art on themselves and their favorite people.

Without further ado, the winners of our Halloween Face-Off are:

Why Using Oil on Oily Skin Might Surprise You

Will using oil on my oily skin make it worse? Will it make my skin look greasy? Will it cause acne? Can I cleanse my skin with just oil? These are all concerns people with oily skin have when considering incorporating naturals oils into their skincare regimen and you’ll find them addressed below.Everyone with every skin type can benefit from using natural oil on their skin because it provides the most rapid results for hydrating and moisturizing.  Oils provide your skin with vitamins and omega’s, both of which help guard against aging and aid in healing a variety of skin issues.

  1. Will using oil on oily skin make it worse? No. People with an oily skin type have larger pores, which produces more oil (click here to read my blog on how to determine your skin type). The problem with people who have oily skin is their want to strip or remove all of the oil off their skin. They either contribute excess oil production to causing acne (which it does not), or they don’t want to look “shiny”. When they do this they cause their skin to overcompensate and produce even more oil. When you put oil on oily skin it tricks your skin into thinking it has enough oil on it and does not need to produce anymore. Over time your skin will stop overcompensating and balance out.
  2. Will using oil make my skin look greasy? No. When using the right oil for your skin type and the correct amount your skin should absorb most of the oil, leaving no greasy residue and just a healthy glow! The key to using oil is the ‘less is more’ approach. Unless you are using it to cleanse the skin, you should only use a tiny amount. Also, the type of oil you are using on your skin will help with how your skin will absorb it.
  3. Will using oils cause acne? It is possible. Oils do have a comedogenic (pore clogging) rating from high to low. The oils itself do not cause acne, but if you are using an oil with a high comedogenic rating and have large pores, it could clog them and cause breakouts. Before using oils, research the best oils for your skin type. This will eliminate any unwanted breakouts. When you find the correct oils they can actually help heal acne and clear the skin.
  4. Can I cleanse my skin with just oil? Yes! This is the best example of like attracting like. When you are removing makeup, dirt and excess oil, it is beneficial to use a product that will attach itself to these impurities. Oil will attach to them, and then when you remove the oil everything else will remove with it. If you are also having trouble with cleansers stripping your skin, I would suggest massaging a little bit of oil on your skin before cleansing. This will create a protective barrier and ensure your skin won’t become stripped along with deep cleaning the makeup and dirt out of the pores.

Lemongrass Spa Products offer a variety of different types of oils. The Organic Anti-Aging Oil Serum is rich in vitamins B, C and E that helps guard against free radicals and boost luminosity. The Baby Massage Oil and Coconut Crème Massage Oil are great in place of or addition to moisturizers for an extra hydration boost. The new Men’s Essentials Beard Oil is excellent for conditioning men’s facial hair and skin, while reducing itchiness or irritations associated with hair growth. Last is the Organic Eye Makeup Remover, which replenishes the skin with nutrients and reduces the appearance of fine lines. Enjoy using and incorporating these oils into your daily skincare routine!

Benefits of Botanical and Anti Aging Complexes

Maintaining dewy, youthful skin is considered the number one skincare concern for most women. Vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and other nutrients are needed to maintain skin’s suppleness and luminosity, and Lemongrass Spa offers two anti-aging botanical blends to meet these needs.

Most people require a daily face crème to help balance and maintain hydration, regardless of skin type. While using a crème formulated for the body won’t harm your face, you’re missing out on the anti-aging benefits of a concentrated formula made with specific skincare concerns in mind. We offer face crèmes formulated for normal, dry and oily/blemished skin, and each recipe is enhanced with a botanical blend to target fine lines, uneven skin tone, rough texture and other signs of aging. If you’ve been struggling with finding a skincare routine, Lemongrass Spa’s resident licensed esthetician, Lauren Wilkerson, can help you determine your skin type (click to read more).

Botanical Complex found in the Face Crème with Botanicals, Gentle Face Crème, Tea Tree Face Crème and Original Cucumber Eye Crème with Witch Hazel includes:

  • Calendula Flower Extract: Used for centuries in wound care due to purported anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiseptic and antimicrobial properties; believed to assist in skin's consumption of proteins and collagen production.
  • Chamomile Flower Extract: Soothes and neutralizes inflamed skin and used in the treatment of skin conditions such as eczema dermatitis.
  • Rose Extract: Cleansing and astringent properties help calm dry and sensitive skin.
  • White Willow Bark Extract: The primary active compound in white willow bark is salicin. In the body, salicin can be converted into salicylic acid, which has powerful effects as an anti-inflammatory and pain-reliever.
  • Red Clover Extract: High concentration of vitamin C and minerals such as niacin, phosphorous and magnesium help reduce redness and itching from minor skin irritations.
  • Elderflower Extract: Packed with powerful antioxidants to fight free radical damage; used for anti-aging, smoothing skin tone, reducing redness and dry skin.
  • Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: Mix of fatty acids derived from coconut oil and vegetable glycerin used to prevent and restore moisture loss.
  • Bulgarian Lavender: Lavender has a long history of use in skin care including treating burns and rashes due to a variety of restorative properties such as anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibacterial.
  • Rose Geranium: Helps balance oil production, improve circulation to skin, works as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory and is often used in the treatment of acne, bruises, burns, cuts, dermatitis and eczema.
  • Carrot Seed Oil: Stimulates circulation and toxin removal, which helps improve elasticity, plus has antiviral and antiseptic properties to help fight blemishes.

Outside of a balanced diet, serums are the perfect delivery system for providing the nutrients your skin needs. Serums apply a concentrated dose of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to the skin. Light and fast absorbing, these elixirs penetrate the inner layers of the dermis for a lasting effect and can be used with all skin types. Lemongrass Spa enhances its Green Tea Antioxidant and Organic Anti Aging Serums with an essential oil blend and anti aging complex to boost the rejuvenating effects. There are visible benefits of daily use of serum including softer, suppler skin, smoother appearance and natural vibrancy. Customers who have used the serums have noticed an improvement of overall elasticity of skin and less dryness, even in cold weather when used regularly. The Green Tea Antioxidant is a favorite among those with oily prone skin types and Organic Anti Aging (Oil) Serum is the preference for normal to dry skin types.

What is the Difference Between Prebiotic Skincare and Traditional Skincare?

During the skincare roundtable expo held at this year’s Lemongrass Spa Products Convention we addressed a myriad of questions. One of the most popular discussions centered around the use of Prebiotics versus Traditional skincare; both of which Lemongrass Spa offers to customers. The difference between the two is significant and boils down to the philosophy and approach in how skin is treated. This article details those philosophies and who benefits the most from each one.

The traditional three-step skincare regime has been around for a long time. Cleanse, tone and moisturize was and still is taught as the best way to take care of your skin. Alkaline cleansers would remove the dirt and oil from the skin, acidic toners would bring the skin back to its normal pH and moisturizers would replenish all the hydration that was lost during the cleansing and toning process. Since skincare is ever evolving, most companies have replaced their harsh cleansers with pH balanced ones, eliminating the need for toners and replacing them with facial mists followed by serums, concentrates and anti-aging moisturizers. I know women who perform an elaborate seven-step skin care routine every night before bed and swear by it. The results they receive are beautiful healthy skin, so it would be hard to convince them to change their routine. Since the three-step skincare routine is the most widely excepted way skincare has been taught, most women are equipped with this basic knowledge. It might be a little hard to for some to feel their skincare needs are being met with only using two facial products that feed the good bacteria on the skin, and that is ok. I always asked my clients two questions: what is your current skincare routine, and what are your skincare goals. If their answer to the first question is anything with a three-step skincare regime or higher I would introduce them to our traditional skincare line and then look at their skincare goals to chose the specific products. Unless you are wanting to reduce skincare steps, time or ingredients, I would recommend the traditional method. I would also recommend this method to women that are highly into anti-aging products and ingredients.

Prebiotics are fairly new in skincare, but as we learn more about the skin biome, prebiotics are becoming more popular and are starting to show up in mainstream products. Most people are aware of the benefits of probiotics. Probiotics are good bacteria that you take to help aid in digestion and keep the balance of good and bad bacteria in the gut. Since probiotics put good bacteria into the body it can also help clear certain skin conditions that are caused by an imbalanced diet. You want to keep the good bacteria healthy in your body in order to help fight off certain digestive and skin issues and that is where prebiotics come in. Prebiotics are food for the good bacteria. When you are providing good bacteria the proper nutrients, it thrives and keeps the bad bacteria in check. So when you incorporate ingredients like sea kelp and coconut oil (used in our prebiotic line) they feed the good bacteria on the skin. When you use any of our prebiotic cleansers (Prebiotic Facial Wash and Prebiotic Body Wash) you are not cleansing away both good and bad bacteria, but simply feeding the good bacteria. This method can help with so many skin conditions that are caused by a bacterial imbalance. Acne, rosacea, eczema, sensitive are just a few of the skin conditions that really benefit from prebiotics. If you are looking to heal these certain skin conditions and are willing to try something new, then the prebiotic line would be the way to go. The prebiotic line is also great for people who do not have a skincare routine and want something simple to start with, looking to save money (there are only two products to buy), looking for a minimal ingredient list (there are only 6 or 7 ingredients in both washes) and simply someone who does not have a lot of time to spend on a skincare routine.

With the knowledge of how both types are skincare work, you are able to decide which way is best for. As more innovated methods are developed education is key to helping you meet your skincare needs.

Essential Oil Lover’s Guide to Diffusing

Many archeological discoveries have shown evidence of plant extracts being used for religious and medicinal purposes, and ancient texts reference the use of plant extracts for physical and psychological wellbeing. Early distillation of plant extracts, similar to modern-day essential oils, is credited to Persians around the 10th century, but much of what we know about the beginning of aromatherapy has been learned from ancient Egyptian culture where evidence of burned plant resins, balms and oils have been found in tombs, hieroglyphics and other ruins.

Aromatherapy has evolved since ancient times, and we have only begun discovering the science behind how plant essences benefit our physical and psychological health. Enhancing mood is one of aromatherapy’s most understood benefits. Have you ever smelled your favorite flower or baked goods and couldn’t help but smile? Create a romantic, uplifting, relaxing or other desirable ambiance by diffusing essential oils in your home or car. People diffuse oils purely for the love of a scent, aromatherapy benefits or both. Whatever your reason, it is recommended you use an electric nebulizer or diffuser (steam or fan) to maintain the molecular integrity of the compound because essential oils can breakdown if exposed to heat. On August 15, Lemongrass Spa Products is releasing three new diffuser choices: Welcome Home Ultrasonic Diffuser (steam), Lattice Diffuser (fan) and Wall Diffuser (fan) to go along with our popular Car Diffuser (fan).

Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the diffuser to enjoy the aroma throughout your home or car. Along with your favorite individual essential oils and blends, here are ten different combinations to try:Wall_Diffuser_1.jpg

Do you have a favorite essential oil combination for your diffuser? Let me know in the comments!

Ingredient Spotlight: Moringa Oil

Nicknamed the “Miracle Tree” and “Tree of Life” due to it’s many health benefits, the moringa tree produces one of the West’s favorite, yet relatively unknown, natural skin care ingredients. Moringa was first referenced around 2000 BC as a medicinal herb and is still revered in Ayurvedic medicine as a prevention and cure from a myriad of diseases; it was also used for skin care and perfumery in ancient Roman, Greek and Egyptian cultures.

Indigenous to the Himalayas, the moringa tree is cultivated in tropical and subtropical climates such as Asia and Africa. The tree is hardy and fast growing; most parts of the tree are edible, making moringa an important food crop to help combat hunger and nutritional deficiencies in impoverished countries. Studies on the nutritional and medicinal properties of the moringa plant so far have only reinforced why it is becoming such a renowned ingredient.

Considered one of the best ingredients for anti-aging, moringa oil, extracted from the tree’s seeds, is light, quickly absorbed and penetrates deep into the skin. This nutrient and antioxidant rich oil is known for slowing the signs of aging, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and improving the appearance of sagging skin; antidotal evidence also points to moringa oil reducing the appearance of dark spots. Rich in vitamins and unsaturated fatty acids moringa oil is excellent for conditioning dry, chapped skin as well as restoring and maintaining moisture balance. Its antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties help heal minor skin irritations and blemishes. It is also believed to deliver vitamins and minerals to hair follicles, which strengthens hair and combats dryness.

Moringa oil is a featured ingredient in our new Nursing Balm and Beard Oil.

Fun Fact Once oil is extracted from the moringa tree’s seeds, the remaining seed cake can be used to remove sediment and bacteria from dirty water, which is useful in areas industrial water treatment is not readily available.

You Think You're so Cool! A Guide to Foundation Color Matching

Warm, Cool or Neutral.  Which are you?  Surprisingly most people don’t know! Selecting the correct color of makeup and clothing can help you put your best and most vibrant face forward.

Choosing the wrong undertone for foundation can make your face look muddy or ashy rather than healthy and glowing. As an example, let’s say you have pink (cool) undertones and you mistakenly choose a foundation with yellow (warm) undertones; being opposites on the color wheel, you aren’t going to be bringing out and enhancing the natural glow of your skin, but rather masking it. Foundations are designed to blend with and smooth the color and appearance of your own skin.  If you look in the mirror and something doesn’t look quite right and you don’t have the healthy, vibrant look after applying your foundation, you may have chosen the wrong undertone.

To determine if you are warm cool or neutral, we need to first differentiate between “tone” and “undertone”.  The tone of your skin can change depending on the time of year it is. You may be a light in the winter and a tan in the summer.  The undertone, however, is the color under the surface of the skin.  Think of it as backlighting behind the skin.  I may be a medium, but am I a Sand Medium (cool) or a Golden Medium (warm)? This all depends on the undertone. Surprisingly, the color of your eyes and hair are not necessarily determining factors in your undertone.

The 4 undertones are:

Cool:  pink, red or blue undertones

Ingredient Spotlight: Evening Primrose Oil

A bright yellow North American wildflower, evening primrose’s name comes from the plant’s blooming in the evenings. This common wildflower was a dietary and medicinal staple in Native American cultures. The stems and roots were cooked and eaten while parts of the plant were used in medicinal treatments from wound compresses to tinctures and teas for a variety of ailments including digestive and menstrual issues. Renowned for it’s skin-rejuvenating quality, evening primrose oil has become a natural skin care star.

Evening primrose oil is cold pressed from the seeds of the Evening Primrose plant. The oil is comprised of omega-6 essential fatty acids Linolenic and Gamma Linolenic and omega-3 and omega-9 fatty acids Oleic, Palmitic and Stearic. Omega-6 fatty acids are important structural components of cell membranes but are not produced by the body, and evening primrose oil contains one of the highest concentrations of Linolenic Acid in the family of natural oils with concentrations typically between 55-72%. Fatty acids are integral to maintain the structural integrity of the skin, which reduces the signs of aging, and topical application has been found to be as effective for the skin healthy as oral supplements.

Antioxidants vitamin E and vitamin C are also packed into this golden oil; they help protect skin against environmental stressors and oxidation, which causes fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging. Evening primrose oil’s anti-inflammatory properties have made it an essential ingredient in creams and lotions to help soothe dryness, itchiness and redness associated with skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. Evening primrose oil is also considered to help those suffering from hormonal acne. The oil absorbs into the skin quickly, reduces transepidermal water loss and is considered hypoallergenic because skin irritation is rare.

Lemongrass Spa harnesses the benefits of evening primrose oil in a variety of products. For anti-aging benefits try Gentle Face Crème, Face Crème with Botanicals, Tea Tree Face Crème or Organic Anti Aging Serum. For all your moisturizing needs choose from Whipped Body Butter, Hand & Body LotionHand & Body Lotion and Ultra Hydrating Body Crème.

Sheer Minerals Spotlight: Serenity Eye Shadow

Serenity…Don’t you just love the sound of it. It emotes visions of light blue clear skies, softly lapping ocean waves, a light blue cotton sundress blowing in a light breeze and all things gentle, calm, soft and soothing. It is befitting our newest shade of Sheer Minerals eye shadow. It is a lovely color on blondes, brunettes and redheads and complimentary to all skin tones as well as all ages.

Some may look at it and think of the 70’s and polyester. While it is a pretty “groovy” color, I encourage those afraid of the hippie/disco/grandma stigma, to try it. It is crisp, clean and everything summer in one shade. Plus, if you felt like feathering your hair and throwing on your white polyester bell bottoms…there’s nothing wrong with a little throwback!

One of the two Pantone Color of the Year, Serenity is a must-have for your summer eye shadow collection.

A few techniques for different looks with Serenity:

Line with it: If you are a little intimidated by sweeping the color dramatically across your lids, pair Serenity Blue with a complimentary color, such as Ballerina Pink Eye Shadow, and simply use Serenity Blue as a liner. Wet your brush for more intense color and precision.

Skincare Tips for Men

Men’s grooming and maintenance habits are not always at the top of the list to talk about when discussing elaborate skincare routines. However, when I was in school, a teacher made a statement that has made a huge impact on how I view skincare as a whole. She stated that “Skin is skin is skin.” Meaning whether you are male or female, oily or dry, or all types of different skin tones, all skin needs basic care and can benefit from a daily routine.  It ensures the skin stays healthy, nourished and youthful. Men’s skin experiences issues such as irritation from shaving, acne, dry or oiliness and also aging. Below is a four-step simple skincare routine geared towards men using products from our Men’s Essentials and Private Reserve collections. Our Private Reserve line is scented with notes of sandalwood and musk using safe phthalate free fragrance. The Men’s Essential line is an all essential oils blend of spruce, birch and sandalwood. You can share this information with any man in your life when gifting him any of our men’s products.

Step One

Cleanse the skin with either our Men’s Essentials Cleansing Gel or Private Reserve Bar Soap. The cleansing gel soothes and calms irritated skin, but is good for all skin types, and the Private Reserve Bar Soap is an all in one cleanser for face and body.

Step Two

If you are planning to shave, apply our Men’s Essentials Shaving Crème formulated with shea butter and aloe for the smoothest shaving experience.

Benefits of Exfoliation

Exfoliation is one the easiest steps you can add to your skincare routine to see immediate results; it instantly brightens and evens out your complexion, giving you a more youthful appearance. There are three different forms of exfoliation. The first two are chemical and enzymatic exfoliation. The third is manual, which is the category Lemongrass Spa Facial Polish and Microdermabrasion Crème fall under. Manual exfoliation is the process of using ingredients such as pumice, walnut shells, salt, sugar or even jojoba beads to manually buff away dead skin cells. Manual exfoliation can also mean using different types of materials such as washcloths, sponges or boucle pads to physically eliminate dead skin.

Exfoliating products have recently been in the spotlight due to the negative impact of toxic ingredients such as microplastic beads are having on the environment. Microplastic beads are used for exfoliation , and these beads are not biodegradable or environmentally friendly. They wash down the drain and into waterways, and biologists are finding these beads in fish and other marine animals and are documenting the negative impact on our ecosystems. Lemongrass Spa uses one hundred percent natural, biodegradable and environmentally friendly exfoliating ingredients in their body and facial polishes and Microdermabrasion Crème. We also offer a cotton boucle pad to use with our cleansing gels or soaps as another form of exfoliation. During the months of June and July enjoy one of our three exfoliating facial products below at Buy One, Get One Half Off!

Microdermabrasion CrèmeF5620_large.jpg

Soften age spots and smooth fine lines with deep exfoliating, volcanic microcrystals suspended in a conditioning crème. Gently polish skin at home once or twice per week. This is a gentle alternative to chemical peels and harsh resurfacing. Enhanced with green tea, chamomile, licorice root and sunflower seed oil for added nutrients and anti-aging properties. Not recommended for extra-sensitive or thinning skin.

For the safest sunscreens on the market, including Lemongrass Spa’s Ocean Friendly and Sport Stick, check out the Environmental Working Group’s 2016 Guide to sunscreens.
  3. If you have experienced too much sun, place our Hand and Body Lotion, Body Icing or Ultra Hydrating Body Crème in the refrigerator before applying. This will not only moisturize sun-damaged skin, but also soothe and cool down the burn. You can even add a couple drops of our certified organic Peppermint Essential Oil to the lotion to help draw the heat out of sunburned skin. Another Lemongrass Spa product that is refreshing to place in the fridge is the Hydrating Body Spritz. Misting the refreshing spritz on the go or after a day of outdoor adventures is another great way to cool down.
  4. Beach walks, flip flips, sandals and being barefoot can take a toll on your feet during warm weather months. Our Complete Cucumber or Herbal Foot Care Kits are the perfect answers for feet in need of some attention. For deep moisturizing, places socks over your feet for a couple hours or over night after using the foot balms. While getting your feet sandal-ready, consider blessing a deserving service member stationed overseas with a foot spa by purchasing a Freedom Feet Foot Kit; click here to learn more about the Freedom Feet program.
  5. These are some other important tips that are often overlooked to keep your skin summer ready. Your underarm area can be very sensitive especially if you are shaving more often. Our new all Natural Deodorant Paste and Deodorant Spray are gentle on skin and will help keep odor away. We also have a Natural Deodorant Stick for those who like a more traditional deodorant. The last summer skin tip is to wear a bug spray. There is nothing worse then having itchy bug bites during the summer. Take Bug-a-Boo Insect Repellent with you to all your outdoor activates to keep those pests away. If you happen to get a bite, place our Healing Elements Balm on it as soon as possible to help soothe the itch and irritation.

With these five steps your skin will be ready for warm weather! We hope that you take Lemongrass Spa with you throughout all your summer activities. Have a happy, healthy and safe skin summer!

Don’t Sweat It…We’ve Got You Covered!

I don’t know about you, but having underarm odor is one of the most embarrassing things for a girl or a guy. Having to avoid someone with bad body odor is hard to cover up. As a teenager or as an adult, this awkward situation is something that can be avoided with the right combination of products.

Did you know that sweat is actually odorless inside the body?

When perspiration is exposed to the atmosphere chemical changes happen. Bacteria on the surface processes the perspiration, causing odor. On average people have 3 to 4 million sweat glands! It’s no wonder Americans are obsessed with great smelling sprays, perfumes, deodorants and antiperspirants!

There are two sweat glands, the eccrine and apocrine. Things like exercise, stress, eating spicy food, hormones, diseases, taking strong medication, running a fever, gastro problems and prolonged infections cause these glands to work overtime to cool off our bodies.

To reduce odor, bacteria on the skin should either be eliminated or out run by good bacteria to create a friendly, less odiferous environment. Good hygiene can go a long way in reducing odor as well as avoiding caffeine, spicy foods and even red meat.
